This much is certain: The Fix loves (loves, loves, loves) elections.
And that goes no matter where they happen or whom they elect.
So when news broke Monday morning that Pope Benedict XVI is going to resign (the first pope since the 1400s to do so), we got excited.
The Fix especially loves papal elections because of the way the process is handled, which includes a conclave in which bishops are locked in a room (great), unexpected winners (better), and black and white smoke to indicate whether a ballot has yielded a new pope (the best).
But rather than explain it all here, we thought we would instead post this great video from Busted Halo, a news website for young Catholics, that explains it succinctly in less than four minutes.
