April 14 marks the 150th anniversary of the president’s assassination by John Wilkes Booth at Ford’s Theatre in D.C.
This picture of Abraham Lincoln, taken by Alexander Gardner on Feb. 5, 1865, was once thought to be the president’s last photo. The image shows a crack in the original negative, which was broken and discarded in 1865. The original surviving print is at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington.
